Check Out Moore County
Moore County
has a temperate climate, a good education system, quality transportation
networks, as well as exceptional health care. It is this mix that affords us a
superior quality of life and one of the BEST places in America to
live.
Our excellent
location is just one reason the quality of life in Moore County is so
exceptional. Moore County is located in the heart of North Carolina. It
lies halfway between New York and Florida and halfway between the Blue Ridge
Mountains and the Coast of Carolina. The Research Triangle Park is
approximately 70 minutes to the North, and Charlotte is less than two hours to
the West. Fayetteville is a comfortable 30 to 40 minute drive to the
East.
North
Carolina and the Sandhills area in particular are a wonderland of cultural
and historic activities and sites. Symphonies, museums, summer theaters,
antique fairs, and arts & crafts festivals are found throughout the
area.
 "Weymouth Center"
Recreation
and Sporting Events: Moore County boasts more than 40 golf courses
within a 25-mile radius. The climate, dry air and sandy soil enable the
golfer to play year-round. If golf is not your game, a myriad of other
recreational opportunities await you. There are numerous equestrian events, as
well as tennis, sailing, water sports, fishing, hunting, archery, bicycling,
jogging, bowling, shopping and dancing.
The
Southern Pines and Pinehurst area has long been home to horse owners of all
breeds and disciplines. Each autumn, trainers and owners from throughout
the country bring their horses here to train in the mild winter climate and
great sand footing. Thanksgiving Day traditionally marks the "Opening Day" of
hunt season for the Moore County Hounds, which culminates with the Hunter
Trials in March. The Sandhills is also an ideal residence of Hunters and
Jumpers as well as Dressage horses. In 2001 the Stoneybrook Steeplechase will
return to the Sandhills. This event will be held at Five Points Equestrian
Center, a new and exciting horse park.
The exciting
Tour de Moore, an international 100-mile bicycle race, is held here
annually and draws cyclists and spectators from all over the world. This event
is the centerpiece for the arts and crafts festival, Springfest, held in
downtown Southern Pines.
The
Arts: The Arts Council of Moore County is at the forefront of a
flourishing community of visual, literary and performing artist in this
area. The council provides a variety of programs for its 2,500 members,
including an annual Fine Arts Festival. Their office is located in the Campbell
House, a Georgian mansion on 14 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. An art
gallery there displays local works of art. The Performing Arts Center is home
to the Sandhills Little Theater, which presents four productions a year, and a
host of other cultural and entertaining events.
