Check Out The Village of Pinehurst!
Few
places in the world are like the Village of Pinehurst and Southern Pines
area. All located in the heart of the Sandhills of North Carolina. Known
for its sandy soil and gentle rolling hills, we are blessed with long leaf
pines which tower majestically over 40 golf courses of championship
quality.
For almost
100 years, renowned golfers have coveted the well-groomed courses in and around
the Village of Pinehurst. Golf's origin in this region dates back to 1899
when Donald Ross began his legacy as course architect. The Village of
Pinehurst, designated a National Landmark in 1996, is the only site recognized
for its significant role in U.S. golf history. The famous Pinehurst's eight
golf courses make it the world's largest golf resort. And they have just
announced the plans for additional courses 9 and beyond! It's only fitting that
it hosted the 1999 U.S. Open and will play host to this prestigious tournament
again in 2005.
Beyond the gorgeous greens lies so much
more for golfers and non-golfers alike. The year round mild climate opens
the door to many other sporting events in both Pinehurst and Southern Pines.
You'll find a diversity of equestrian activities, from polo to harness racing,
as well as hunting, hiking, tennis, water sports, croquet, lawn bowling,
cycling, and more.
Southern
Pines enjoys a particularly rich menu of arts and entertainment. Its active
Art Council sponsors a host of activities, including a monthly gallery opening
at its home in the historic Campbell House. The Southern Pines town center
features a number of independent galleries and The Sunrise Theater is the site
of a wide variety of performances.
You'll find a
plethora of friendly and gracious accommodations honoring a century-old
tradition of fine Southern hospitality, from cozy bed and breakfast inns,
to hotels, condominiums, and the grand Carolina Hotel. A taste of the area can
be sampled at the wide variety of local restaurants, delis, pubs, and quaint
tearooms. From elegant, first-class dining at formal resorts to your favorite
casual spots, you'll find any dining experience you desire right here.
Shoppers can
take delight in the area offerings, from antiques and local handicrafts to
novelty and specialty items, including many pro golf shops. Stroll down the
picturesque streets of the Village of Pinehurst and downtown Southern Pines to
find wonderful treasures. Come explore the area with all its history, splendor,
and Southern charm. Once you've been here, it will always be a part of you.
